Guns N' Roses To Play Thunder Bay
("Skinny Axl" by Sandy Yagi)
Guns N' Roses in Thunder Bay?
The band released their Canadian tour dates on October 19, and Thunder Bay was not listed.
However word is out that the city has been added to the tour in what is being called an "Off-Day Headline show" on January 22, 2010.
"Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach will support Guns N' Roses alongside Danko Jones on the band's upcoming Canadian tour. He has announced an off-day headline show for Thunder Bay, Ontario on January 22nd at The Roxy".
The word on this show comes early this morning. Is it a Halloween trick or a treat for Thunder Bay's fans of metal? Time will tell.

Slash Jams with Alice Cooper, Corey Taylor Speaks
Slash jamming with the MC5's Wayne Kramer
Slash joined Alice Cooper on stage Wednesday night (October 28) at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles to perform the classic track "School's Out."
According to Examiner.com, Slash played the song on his red sunburst Les Paul, as Cooper strutted on stage in a glittering suit and matching top hat. Cooper then proclaimed, "Happy Halloween."

In other news, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has confirmed that he was being considered for the singer slot in Velvet Revolver.
Speaking to Altitude TV (see video below), Taylor said, "I had a meeting with those guys, we did some demos together, and it just didn't work — for whatever reason."
He added, "It was just really cool. It was one of those things where it's like I could have got to jam with legends, man, in my opinion. But, you know, it was cool, and I still know those guys, I still hang out with them, and I still have nothing but respect."
Slash was asked a few months ago by the webmaster of his official fan site if there was any truth to the rumor that Taylor was going to be the next VR singer. According to a posting on the site, Slash "said it looked like it for a minute, but they had decided against it."
Slash will appear on George Lopez' new talk show on TBS November 16.
You can watch Slash N' Friends playing "Immigrant Song" and "Highway to Hell" from the 'Jason Cam' below (Kristiansand, Norway June 30, 2009).

Is Montreal Ready to Welcome GN'R Back to the Jungle?
National Post (Canada)
Tour announcement brings back memories of 1992
By Justin Go
"Thank you, your money will be refunded."
These were the parting words from Axl Rose to a crowd of 53,000 Guns N' Roses fans at Montreal's Olympic Stadium on August 8, 1992, delivered right before leaving the stage.
As the evening's co-headliners, Metallica had been forced to cut their performance short after singer James Hetfield was rushed to a hospital following a pyrotechnics accident; the crowd had been hoping that Guns N' Roses would salvage the night. With a set cut short at 55 minutes, Rose's performance didn't cut it.
Thousands of angry fans proceeded to go on a rampage, setting fires and breaking windows and concession stands in the stadium, eventually spilling out onto streets. It took 300 riot police to keep the violence contained. At the end of the night, 12 people were arrested and 20, including three police officers, were sent to the hospital. The total damage to Olympic Stadium was estimated at $300,000.
Reflecting on it later in an interview with MTV, Rose was far from apologetic. "There were technical difficulties in Montreal, and we had to leave and the crowd was very upset about that," he explained. "They didn't really take the time to think about what went on for us. Now that's kinda hard to take, and I don't feel responsible for that."
Maybe the fans should've seen it coming. A year earlier, Rose had been accused of instigating a riot in St. Louis, Mo., after he ended the concert early due to being unimpressed with the venue's security. It took third-degree burns for Metallica to cut their Montreal show short, but all it took for Rose to decide he'd had enough was the Big O's PA system. (Fan speculation ranges from Rose having vocal problems to his personal fortune teller advising him earlier to avoid all things with the letter "m.") And while Metallica made good on their promise to finish the concert at a later date, there would be no refund from Rose, nor would he play the city again.
That's all set to change after this week's announcement that Guns N' Roses will tour 13 cities in Canada next year, with the Bell Centre in Montreal scheduled for Jan. 27.
"I've been waiting for this a long, long time," says an elated Laurent Lépine. Now 36, Lépine was a teenager when he saw Guns N' Roses on that infamous night. Lépine felt so strongly about it that he started an online petition and MySpace page called GNR Fans Around the World, trying to rally together like-minded devotees to the cause.
"They came to Quebec City in 2006, but that's not the same. We want to see them here."
Philippe Renaud, music critic for La Presse, is a bit more skeptical about the event. "I doubt it's going to be a good show," he says, siding with the many detractors who believe Guns N' Roses in its current incarnation - without co-founding guitarist, Slash - isn't the real thing. "But Axl Rose will make sure to be there. He's getting old, and he needs the money."
And it shouldn't be surprising if, this time around, there's some resentment among those who were treated to half a concert and then put in harm's way.
"It was terrible and I cried all the way home," Lépine admits, adding that his contribution to the mayhem involved throwing a hot dog stand down the stairs of Olympic Stadium. "I watched the news all night, I couldn't sleep. ‘But it's rock 'n' roll,' I thought."
That's a sentiment amplified by Metal Mike, host of the radio program The Metal File on Montreal's CHOM-FM.
"It was the most fun rock 'n' roll night ever!" he says. "It was the best summer to be a teenager. I was 17, and we had the Habs riot and Guns riot within a few months of each other!"
Metal Mike also claims that many who attended the concert wear the experience as a badge of honour. "It was just a bunch of metalheads running around breaking things. We knew it was the last hurrah for metal," he says. With this new date, he's wary of bandwagon jumpers. "All of a sudden every Montrealer acts as if they were there."
Rose's most recent Canadian fanbase altercation came in 2002. After years of hiding, he honoured Vancouver as the city to open the Guns N' Roses comeback tour, and then proceeded not to show up. But even then, there was something affirming in the singer's disrespect of his fans. "When I saw the Vancouver stories about a riot, I knew Guns N' Roses were back," Metal Mike recalls.
Calls to the Montreal police could not confirm if there would be more security than usual for the event. But it is worth noting that while every other show on the upcoming Canadian tour is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., the Bell Centre lists a start time of 6:45 p.m.
Ever the true believer, Lépine, who named his youngest of four children Axl in honour of his musical hero, believes the early start time might mean Rose and company will play an extended show to make up for the last one. And while he admits apologies aren't in the front man's nature, he's convinced a solid performance will clear the air.
"Twenty years after, if he gives a good show and kicks ass, it will be fine," Lépine says. "But I'll believe it when they're here. You never know if he cancels," he says, only half-joking.

Stockdale Says Slash Track is "Relentless"
Andrew Stockdale, lead singer of Melbourne rockers Wolfmother, spoke to the BBC News about a track he recorded with guitarist Slash.
The song will be included on Slash's forthcoming solo album which is tentatively scheduled for release in February or March 2010.
Stockdale, who lends his vocals to the untitled song has described its sound as "relentless".
He added, "Slash is an iconic figure in rock 'n' roll history ... It's an honor."
Explaining about how the collaboration came about Stockdale said, "at the start of the year Slash contacted my manager and asked if I was interested in singing on his record. Maybe because I've got that old school delivery it matches what he was trying to do. Guns N' Roses in the '90s, they brought back the danger in rock 'n' roll."
Stockdale, who releases Wolfmother's second album Cosmic Egg on 26 October, will perform with Slash at a benefit concert arranged by the guitarist at LA's Avalon Theatre on November 22.
Ozzy Osbourne, and Blink 182's Travis Barker are also scheduled to take part.
Slash will appear at West Fest, a free concert to be held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on this Sunday October 25. Ray Manzarek from The Doors, Denny Laine from The Moody Blues, and The Alameda Allstars, Greg Allman’s band are also scheduled to perform.

Irving Azoff On Plagiarism Lawsuit
Guns N' Roses manager Irving Azoff has responded to the Ulrich Schnauss lawsuit with this statement:
"The band vigorously contests these claims and intends to respond accordingly."
He added the band and production team’s legal reps will be responding SOON, as well.
YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AND READ THE FULL COMPLAINT HERE.
His full statement follows:
"The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track.
The snippets of ‘ambient noise’ in question were provided by a member of the album’s production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately. Artists these days can’t read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore are unfortunately vulnerable to claims like this one.
While the band resents the implication that they would ever use another artist’s work improperly and are assessing possible counterclaims, they are confident this situation will be satisfactorily resolved."

Guns N' Roses Sued for Plagiarism
Two independent record labels sued U.S. rock band Guns N' Roses for $1 million, claiming the group used portions of two songs by a German musician on their last album Chinese Democracy.
Guns N' Roses and Universal Music Group's Interscope-Geffen A&M label were sued by British label Independiente and the US arm of Domino Recording Company, who own the licensing rights to songs by German electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss.
Singer Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses band members and album producers copied portions of two of Schnauss' songs -- "Wherever You Are" and "A Strangely Isolated Place" -- for a song used on the band's last album called "Riad N' the Bedouins," according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit, filed on Friday but made available on Monday, seeks $1 million in damages. A spokesperson for Interscope-Geffen A&M, owned by Vivendi's Universal Music Group, was not available for comment.

Slash N' Friends Review From the Vegas Sun
LAS VEGAS SUN
Where Courtney Love meets John Momot: Slash concert a true variety show
By John Katsilometes
Photo: Justin Bowen
The allure of these rollicking Slash & Friends concerts brings to mind the imperious message from old late-night TV pitchmen: “How do we do it? Volume, volume, volume!”
Quality, quantity, high spirits and jacked-up amperage made for a late-night carnival at Bare Pool Lounge at The Mirage late last night, a showcase that spilled into the morning with an after-party at Jet. The all-star rock ’n’ roll exercise hosted by the former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses summoned the old (dueling iconic guitarists Rick Nielsen and Joe Perry), bold (Courtney Love, tossing aside typical stage protocol to read lyrics to the gender-unspecific “20th Century Boy”) and beautiful (the wholly captivating Nicole Scherzinger, the leather-and-lace encased frontwoman for Pussycat Dolls).
As for the latest SlashFest, it hardly mattered that over the past few weeks, the event’s lineup experienced more drops than Terrell Owens during last Sunday’s Bills-Saints game (Rob Zombie, Jason Bonham, Tommy Lee and announced emcee Kiefer Sutherland were among the fall-out boys). The show drew ample star power anyway, and of course the requisite oddities, such as an onstage visit from Slash’s wife, Perla. The stormy spouse and Slash’s apparent voice of reason strode onstage in a beaded black corset adorned with long tassels over each side of her chest, snug black shorts and lace stockings. All dolled up, in other words. She then quoted a dead woman, Anna Nicole Smith, by asking, “How do you like my BAH-dee?”
We like it just enough! But not so much to offend Slash, the evening’s BFF.
Following are more “hooky” riffs from a crisp and loud evening in VegasVille:
*The vocalist for much of the evening was Las Vegas native Franky Perez, whose look has matured to the point where he looks like the father of the guy who released the promising “Poor Man’s Son” in 2003. The last time I’d seen Perez perform was that year when he opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd at The Orleans Arena. He roared through “Whipping Post” that night, and again last night, along with AC/DC's “Highway to Hell” and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” Dressed entirely in black, shedding the shades and jacket in favor of a tank top late in the show, Perez obviously relished performing with the high-level stars like Perry, Nielsen, Slash, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan, who swapped spots on the stage over the two-hour show. At one point, he asked if anyone was from Las Vegas (a few among the crowd of about 650 cheered) and then he gave a call-out to his alma mater, Bonanza High School. Not your typical rock-show moment, eh? In the late stages, Perez also wore what appeared to be an old red-and-blue Las Vegas Stars hat from about 20 years ago.
It was fun watching Perez work it out onstage again. There was a time when he was at least as promising an artist as The Killers. It’ll be interesting to see if he can, as we say, parlay this fortuitous gig into something he can sustain.
*The Joe Perry Project opened the show and performed a song Aerosmith ignored during its visit to the MGM Grand Garden Arena a couple of months ago, a reggae version of “Dream On.” Perry said that version of the song was requested by an individual who booked the band to perform during a cruise, and Perry’s response was something like, “Forget you, cruise boy,” but it was a pretty cool rendition.
*Jot down Scherzinger’s name on that list of performers you don’t want to follow. She’s an exotically beautiful, easy-on-the-eyes, hard-on-the-ears performer able to share the stage with anyone (just in the past month, she’s appeared with both Gossy-Goss and Slash). By the time she finished with a full-force take on “Whole Lotta Love,” Love walked to the mic and said, “I just got my a** handed to me. I’ve gotta follow that?” Give Love credit for conveying that revelation, at least. She’s no dummy.
*Anyone clamoring for a meltdown by Love came away disappointed. She sipped from a glass filled with orange fluid and produced a lyric sheet to make it through “20th Century Boy,” a move I’d seen only once before, when Pink unfolded sheets of lyrics for “Rock and Roll” during the opening-night party at Empire Ballroom four years ago. But Love still has that haggard-sexy act pretty much perfected. She might not look or sound great each time out, but no one looks or sounds quite like her. At least, no one famous.
*Notable jams: Nielsen, who should be our next mayor, played on the full-group effort of Cheap Trick’s “Surrender.” Perry returned for “Toys in the Attic.” Sen Dog of Cypress Hill joined Perez on a blistering “Walk This Way.” McKagan and Sorum (who seemed to be in full, stroppy revelry by the time he hit the stage late in the show) joined Slash in a mini-Guns ’N Roses reunion for “It’s So Easy” (which I’ve always felt would make a great ballad) and an everyone-in-the-pool “Paradise City” to finish the show.

Slash N' Friends Gig at the Mirage Tonight
Slash N' Friends will play the Mirage Hotel and Casino tonight.
The line-up for the Mirage gig is: Tommy Clufetos on drums, Johnny Griparic on bass, Ted "Zig Zag" Andreadis on keys, Slash and John 5 on guitar, and Franky Perez, vocals. That's basically the house band.
Slash's special guests tonight are (more or less in this order): Rocco Deluca, Nicole Scherzinger, Courtney Love, Rick Nielson, Robin Zander and Joe Perry. Also, Matt Sorum is jamming a couple songs and there will be some other surprises.
The Joe Perry Project is playing as well, it's going to be a loud night.
Tickets are available through Mirage Entertainment on the Mirage website.
Another gig Slash is putting together will be on November 22. It's a fundraiser for LA Youth Network or "LAYN" at the Henry Fonda Theater.
The solo record is in its mixing stage. & the mixes to this point sound great. We have recorded 18 songs with one more I want to track in the next couple weeks.
The record is still slated for a February or March 2010 release.
