Well of course, Axl Rose is referencing the Steve Goodman folk song, City of New Orleans.
Good morning, America, how are you Don't you know me, I'm your native son I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done
In this writer's opinion, the album art above is a response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
I started singing the same song but I'm not making the connection with the grenade and the hurricane and the after math. Grenades go with terrorist and war. This image suggests violence towards America by one of their own. And to me the Chinese Democracy album is more about love stinks than a political statement. Axl said Chinese Democracy was just about a movie he saw and what he felt and that he wasn't trying to say anything. So why is there all these political images coming out?
That is the beauty of art. It sparks dialogue and interpretation is open to anyone and everyone who is exposed to it.
In the literal sense, yes, a grenade is an instrument of destruction, metaphorically it can mean other things. The only thing that matters is what does it mean to you?
What single is this for?
ReplyDeleteIt's an alternate cover for the album.
